Snoop Dogg has risked damaging his street cred by praising Mc Hammer, insisting the U Can'T Touch This hitmaker was "great" for rap music.
Hammer is often derided by his peers for his baggy trousers and flamboyant dance moves, but he achieved huge fame in the early 1990s, selling more than 50 million records worldwide.
And Gin and Juice star Snoop has now spoken out to praise the mocked hip-hop star, insisting his global success paved the way for other young rappers to achieve international fame.
He tells Britain's Q magazine, "MC Hammer was great for rap. That was a growth and development stage where rap was taken outside the street corners of the hardcore scene and put in the realm of being international and making money."
