Rapper Snoop Dogg has been arrested on suspicion of illegal drug and gun possession at a California airport - the third time he has been apprehended by police at a flight terminal in six months. The hip-hop star, real name CALVIN BROADUS, was detained by police at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank yesterday afternoon (26OCT06). Airport police officers stopped him at a loading zone for a vehicle code violation. When officers searched the vehicle they found a firearm and marijuana, police said. He was later booked at the Burbank Police Department Jail, but released after posting $35,000 (GBP19,400) bail. However, the rapper's lawyer DONALD ETRA is confident the case can be resolved before he is due back in court in December (12DEC06). He says, "There was no basis for this arrest. We believe that once this is cleared up, all charges will be dismissed." Snoop Dogg is already under California police scrutiny after authorities last month (SEP06) discovered a collapsible baton in his bags as he boarded a New York-bound flight from John Wayne International Airport. Earlier this year (06) the rapper and several members of his entourage were apprehended by police at London's Heathrow Airport after a brawl that left seven police officers with minor injuries. He has also been convicted of cocaine possession and was charged with gun possession after a 1993 traffic stop. He was acquitted of murder in 1996 after an alleged gang member was gunned down from the vehicle Snoop Dogg was travelling in.
