Rap star Snoop Dogg is launching an American football scheme in tough inner-city areas of Los Angeles to bring joy to the lives of deprived youngsters.

The DROP IT LIKE IT'S HOT rapper - whose SNOOP YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE is targetting eight troubled neighbourhoods in LA - will only allow budding sports stars to join in if they achieve the required school grades he's set for them.

Dogg has warned kids who ignore their education and let their standards slip they'll be "kicked off" the team.

He said, "Each kid that plays on the team has to have a C average, which is a 2.0 grade point average, to play.

"They have to maintain that. If their grades drop below that, they're kicked off the team for a week, maybe two weeks.

"At the same time, it's about us teaching these kids something positive, and this football league means the world to me 'cause the kids are our future."
