Singer Smokey Robinson will be honoured as Little Kids Rock's Rocker of the Year later this year (16).
The I Second That Emotion star has signed on to help raise awareness and funds for the nonprofit organisation's efforts to aid low-income public school district officials expand their music programs, and now the 76-year-old will be honoured for his charitable endeavours and career success in October (16), according to Billboard.com.
"Music is a gift and I believe that every child should have access to it," Robinson says. "I'm honoured to be able to join Little Kids Rock in furthering its mission."
Paul Shaffer will lead the musical roster, while other performers will be announced at a later date.
The proceeds from the event will help to provide instruments and free music lessons to students at America's underprivileged schools.
