Indie rockers Smith Westerns have confirmed they are splitting up.

The band issued a statement earlier this month (Dec14) announcing they were taking an "indefinite hiatus" following the departure of guitarist Max Kakacek, but now frontman Cullen Omori has spoken out to confirm the group, which formed in 2007, is over.

Smith Westerns will hold their last live performance at Schubas Tavern in Chicago, Illinois on 23 December (14).

Omori tells The Chicago Reader, "The band just didn't work. Both creatively and personally. The terminology I used, 'indefinite hiatus', I thought was a clever way of saying 'it's not going to happen in the future'. But yeah, there's no plans to reignite Smith Westerns. It's broken up. Me and (bassist) Cameron (Omori), when Max left the band, we decided we weren't going to dissolve it until we played these last shows because it sprang up on all of us."
