THE Smashing Pumpkins have finally confirmed they are reuniting, following months of speculation, and are ready to record their sixth studio album. Frontman Billy Corgan, who has remained friends with former drummer Jimmy Chamberlain and second bassist Melissa Auf der Maur, has not yet confirmed the latest line-up. A statement on the group's website reads: "It's official, The Smashing Pumpkins are currently writing songs for their upcoming album, their first since 2000. "No release date has been set, but the band plans to begin recording this summer." Last year (05), Corgan took out a full page advertisement in the Chicago Tribune announcing his wish to reform the band.
