Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has severed ties with the professional wrestling venture he co-founded in 2011 so he can concentrate on an ambitious new musical project.

Corgan took to Twitter.com on Tuesday to announce he had walked away from Resistance Pro Wrestling, but assured fans he has another exciting initiative planned.

He wrote, "For those interested, I've left Resistance Pro Wrestling, officially and unofficially. Details to follow in the coming weeks... and though this is by no means a way to reach them, I'd like to thank the talented wrestlers, managers, and valets I've worked with."

The Chicago Tribune reports Corgan is now focused on a 20-minute musical based on religious rite The Eleusinian Mysteries, which will debut in December (14) at The Music Theatre Company of Highland Park in Chicago, Illinois as part of the 48 Hour Musicals workshop.
