Slipknot guitarist Jim Root overcame a potentially life-threatening health battle to finish the band's summer (12) tour with Slayer and Motorhead on Sunday night (05Aug12) after his appendix burst while they were on the road.
The rocker was forced to sit out a number of the band's dates on the U.S. Mayhem Festival tour after he was hospitalised in June (12) and subsequently underwent emergency surgery.
The group made a tough decision to continue the shows without him, saying in a statement, "Jim has been seriously sick for the past two weeks and went to the hospital last week where he was advised that his appendix burst a couple weeks before and that it could have been life threatening. Jim is at home recovering and is awaiting surgery to have pieces of his appendix removed and hopes to join the tour as soon as he is able. Slipknot will continue to headline the Mayhem Festival and all other shows. We refuse to let our fans down and will not miss a single date."
Root underwent surgery, and after two weeks resting at home, he was able to rejoin his bandmates for a show in Tampa, Florida last month (Jul12) and he made it to the end of the tour by completing the final Mayhem show in Hartford, Connecticut on Sunday.
Slipknot will continue touring throughout the summer (12).
