Sir Paul McCartney's wife Heather Mills is horrified that people are doubting the truth of her rags-to-riches story.

The stunning former model was homeless, abused and estranged from her family in her younger years but acquaintances told a recent documentary that she had fabricated parts of her life story.

But Mills has reacted furiously to the claims made in HEATHER MILLS: THE REAL MRS McCARTNEY on Britain's CHANNEL 4 network.

She says, "Why would I want to make something like that up? I can only tell what the story is. The point is that I did leave home. I was homeless and I did do a lot of things that teenagers who are rebelling do.

"I stole from a jewellery shop and I spoke honestly about these things in my book nine years ago, because I thought that would inspire someone to see that you can go on and go past that.

"My life was crazy and I dealt with it and I was fine, but there is only so much you can take in your life."
