Sin City director Frank Miller has signed on to bring another classic graphic novel to the big screen after agreeing to take charge of THE SPIRIT. Comic book guru Miller will adapt and direct the film, based on Will Eisner's influential comic strip. Miller will make the official announcement at Saturday's (22JUL06) Comic-Con convention in San Diego, California. The Spirit is Eisner's story of a masked detective, believed to be dead and operating out of a mausoleum, fighting crime in the dark shadows of Central City. Eisner's character first appeared in 1940 and ran as a comic strip for decades. The Spirit has been reprinted in hardcover form by DC Comics in recent years. Miller wrote and drew the graphic novels on which Sin City was based and made his feature directorial debut on the film alongside acclaimed film-maker ROBERT RODRIGUEZ.
