The Scottish singer confesses he has 100 white shirts he rotates for gigs and it has become more than a habit to dress in white.
He explains, "That man in black thing - so loved by countless rock stars - just doesn't suit. It's just not what I am about.
"For me it has to be white. Maybe it is because I feel that white is the colour of peace and purity, the colour of spirituality itself. The simplest of colours.
"Perhaps that is why I associate wearing a white shirt with performing with Simple Minds."
