The absence of Simon Cowell from the judging panel on the British version of The X Factor has turned out to be as inconsequential as his absence from the judging panel on American Idol. The season premiere of the talent contest on Saturday night averaged 10.5 million viewers on ITV. And while that figure is down from last year's season premiere of 11.1 million, it will amounts to the biggest audience for any regular show airing on British television. Simon, who created and produces X Factor , is not appear on it in the U.K. this season so that he can devote for attention to the U.S. version, which is scheduled to launch on Fox in September.
