British POP IDOL MICHELLE McMANUS has been offered a lifeline by slimming company WEIGHT WATCHERS, as she gets used to life under the media glare.

Michelle, 23, won the second season of the British version of the internationally-successful talent contest last month (DEC03) - despite being told by judges including Simon Cowell that she would find it difficult to find a fanbase due to her weight.

But Michelle - who lost two stone (12.7 kilogrammes) while competing for the coveted prize - proved her doubters wrong with a convincing victory over fellow finalist MARK RHODES, and now Weight Watchers are determined to help her cultivate a slimmer look.

After writing to the Scottish singer to wish her luck in the final, a spokesperson for the company says, "Michelle attended our classes for a few months and did really well so we wrote to her congratulating her and wishing her all the best for the final."

And now Weight Watchers bosses are hoping the company's online services will give Michelle the chance to continue her good work in 2004.
