Shirley Maclaine was stunned after landing the role of COCO CHANEL in a new TV mini-series - because Audrey Hepburn once predicted she would play the designer.
The veteran actress was working with the late star in the 1950s when Hepburn suggested that MACLaine would be perfectly cast as the fashion queen.
The 73-year-old recalls, "We were working on the film The Children's Hour. I was in my twenties and Audrey said to me that I should play Coco Chanel when I was older."
And although she claims to know little about style, the Terms of Endearment star is convinced she will be able to portray Chanel in her later years: "I don't know fashion
but I do know women like her.
"She was very tough, extremely bitter, very colourful, complicated and contradictory."
