LATEST: Movie-maker Sheldon Lettich has been forced to scrap plans to bring Wesley Snipes and Jean-Claude Van Damme together in a new action film - because he can't afford them.

Lettich had hoped to team the fallen martial arts stars up in new film THE HARD COPS, but he admits budgetary restrictions won't allow him to do that.

He tells Van Damme fansite, "Here's the reasons why (we can't do this), as the producer explained to me: It would cost in the neighbourhood of $10 million (GBP5.6 million) just to pay both their salaries, but there is no assurance that this movie would do twice the business if both stars were in it.

"The demographic that sees a Van Damme movie is the same demographic that sees a Wesley Snipes movie. You don't necessarily get more bang for your buck, although the movie's budget would be nearly twice the norm.

"This is why you never saw (SYLVESTER) STALLONE and (ARNOLD) SCHWARZENEGGER in the same movie, although that concept was hotly bandied about in the 80s and 90s.

"As a movie fan, I'd love to see the two of them together in this movie. But, as a director, I'd be very worried about a clash of egos on the set."
