Actress Sharon Stone believes her serious illness in 2001 was the best thing that ever happened to her - despite the fact it nearly killed her.

The BASIC INSTINCT star suffered a cerebal aneurysm which nearly claimed her life - but Stone thinks the whole experience has made her a much stronger person with a new perspective on life.

She explains, "I wouldn't have given up this experience for any OSCAR. When you have a health problem like this, you inevitably become stronger.

"Today, I look at Hollywood with a new philosophy. Who cares about a fictitious world? The important thing is to make sure we are in harmony with ourselves and are healthy."
