Rock matriarch Sharon Osbourne has blasted Simon Cowell for insisting his response to her husband Ozzy's near-fatal quad bike crash was "misquoted".

The warring pair - who have teamed up with Westlife manager Louis Walsh on British reality TV show THE X FACTOR - continued their bitter rivalry during the taping of the programme, despite Cowell's efforts to convince Osbourne his scathing comments on Ozzy's smash were misconstrued.

The acid-tongued American Idol judge sparked controversy when he claimed the former BLACK SABBATH star's accident in December (03) was a publicity stunt, even though he nearly died from his injuries.

But in an interview with Cowell and Osbourne, the music mogul told her, "If I'm honest, when I heard that Sharon was going to join me and Louis as judges I was in two minds. I felt negative because she had said some nasty things about me when I had been misquoted and misunderstood."

An unconvinced Osbourne hit back, "That's f**king bulls**t. You were not misquoted."

Cowell then responded, "Well, I was taken out of context. I wasn't given the facts so there was a misunderstanding. Anyway, I was reticent about having Sharon on the show for that reason, but happy because she sort of knows what she is talking about."
