Hit comedy Sex And The City came to an emotional end last night (22FEB04) with a conclusion most fans were hoping for - CARRIE back in the arms of her on-off lover MR BIG.

The characters, played by Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth, have enjoyed a turbulent romance throughout most of the show's six seasons, but it was Carrie's move from New York to Paris which made Big realise his love for her - so he flew to the French capital to win her back.

And he arrived just in time: after a stream of disappointments from her Russian lover, artist ALEKSANDR PETROVSY - played by MIKHAIL BARYSHNIKOV - Carrie was already having doubts about the man she'd moved thousands of miles to be with.

She also learned about how much he put his work first, when she was left dining alone with his ex-wife JULIETTE, after yet another let down.

But after he neglected her on his art show's opening night at a museum - an event which she had ditched a party with fans to attend - Carrie decided to confront Petrovsy, which resulted in him slapping her.

Carrie then told Aleksandr, "I am someone who's looking for love, real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can't-live-without-each-other love, and I don't think that love is here... in Paris."

Big was reunited with Carrie in the posh hotel's lobby, and, when he learned Aleksandr had slapped his belle, he raced up the stairs to confront him - only to be tripped over by Carrie who successfully foiled his violent plans. After sharing a few laughs, Big embraced Carrie and told her, "It took me a really long time to get here. But I'm here. Carrie, you're the one."

Kim Cattrall's man-eater character SAMANTHA finally gave into love and allowed it to tame her.

Her toyboy lover, played by Jason Lewis, flew from the Canadian set of his ATTILA THE HUN movie just to let her know he loved her - which instantly brought back the feisty PR's sex drive, which had been destroyed by the chemotherapy she went through for her breast cancer.

There was also good news for Kristin Davis' character CHARLOTTE and her husband HARRY: after a deal with their surrogate parents fell through, they learned they were approved to adopt a little girl from China.

MIRANDA, played by Cynthia Nixon, on the other hand, embraced a life with added stress, after agreeing to share her home with her husband STEVE's mother, who had suffered a stroke just days beforehand, unknown to the couple.

The show came to a heart-warming climax when Carrie was reunited with her three friends once again in the very place their friendship had blossomed - New York City.

Then, as a treat at the fadeout, Big phoned Carrie on her mobile phone, and, on the caller ID, viewers finally found out his real name: JOHN.
