Family Guy creator Seth Macfarlane has set new records as his coarse new comedy Ted, soared to the top of the Box Office in it's opening weekend, making it the third-best debut ever for an R rated comedy, only behind the openings of The Hangover Part II and Sex and the City. If that wasn't enough to shout about, it also has the honor of being the best debut ever for an original comedic storyline too.
The film, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, tells the tale of the titular Ted, voice by MACFarlane, a foul-mouthed, pot smoking teddy bear and best friend of Wahlberg's character. The film pipped fellow R-rated newbie Magic Mike to the number one spot, taking in an impressive $54.1 million compared to the Steven Soderbergh stripper movie's equally impressive $39.2 million gross.
Compared to the most recent successful comedies, Ted has surpassed all rivals, other than The Hangover films, in terms of domestic gross and looks to be well on its way to grossing over $100 million - possible even $200 million. According to movie experts, both Ted and the Channing Tatum and Matthew Mcconaughey staring Magic Mike have over-performed at the box office so far, and have all but made back their production costs, Entertainment Weekly reports.
