Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa has been forced to cancel all his concerts for Austria's Vienna State Opera after he was struck down with a series of ailments.
The music maestro initially took two-months leave from his role as Vienna's conductor from last week (27JAN06), but has now extended his sick leave for the remainder of his time in Austria.
His doctor says, "Mr Ozawa suffers from shingles, acute pneumonia and chronic inflammation of his upper jaw.
"It is necessary for him to reconsider his tight schedule and the vast volume of his work, which caused the illnesses."
Ozawa adds, "Following my doctor's advice, I have decided to concentrate on treatment and health recovery for about four to five months. Although I caused big trouble for many people, I will try to recover and intend to resume musical activities as soon as possible."
