Celebrated Irish poet Seamus Heaney has given controversial superstar Eminem his seal of approval - claiming he has "sent a voltage around a generation."

The Celtic wordsmith, 64, made the observation at the opening of THE PRINCE OF WALES SUMMER SCHOOL in Norwich, east England yesterday (30JUN03).

When asked if he could name a musician who - like JOHN LENNON - had turned young people on to poetry with their lyrics, he replied, "There is this guy Eminem. He has created a sense of what is possible.

"He has sent a voltage around a generation. He has done this not just through his subversive attitude but also his verbal energy."
