Another Screen Actors Guild Awards show has come and gone and with it comes some well deserved winners, an outstanding first ever host and a few brilliantly heartwarming moments. Much like the Golden Globes, it was a very much a #MeToo centred event once again.

David Harbour Screen Actors Guild

This year's Screen Actors Guild Awards was full of impassioned speeches about being united as human beings from a number of winners, but none were more fierce and rabble-rousing than that of 'Stranger Things' star David Harbour, who executed the greatest speech of the night.

Screen Actors Guild Idris Elba

Continuing awards season was the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday (January 30th 2016), which certainly set a fine example for the Oscars with its recognition of diversity. There were few surprises among this year's winners, and it was CBS comedienne Carol Burnett who took home the Life Achievement Award.

SpotlightSpotlight lands top movie award

Landing the top award of Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture was Tom McCarthy's 'Spotlight' starring Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton and Rachel McAdams; a movie which has already landed an AFI Award and DGA Award this year, to coincide with its six Academy Award nominations. Leading Male Actor was of course Leonardo DiCaprio for 'The Revenant'; the Golden Globe winner and everyone's favourite to finally win an Oscar this year. Leading Female Actor was another Golden Globe winner, Brie Larson from 'Room', while Supporting Female Actor went to Alicia Vikander for 'The Danish Girl'.

'Birdman' Wins SAG Best Picture, Blows Oscars Race Wide Open

Michael Keaton Screen Actors Guild

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's stunning comedy-drama Birdman won top prize at the 21st Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday evening (Januart 25, 2014), beating heavy favorite Boyhood and effectively blowing the race for Best Picture at the Oscars wide open. The bookmakers responded immediately, cutting the movie's odds to leave it almost level-pegging with Richard Linklater's coming-of-age epic.

Perhaps crucially, the SAG Awards are often an accurate barometer for the Oscars - far more so than the Golden Globes. If that holds true this year, than Birdman could find itself as a Best Picture winner, while Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore will be crowned with the major acting awards. The British actor's turn as Dr Stephen Hawking saw him topped Michael Keaton for Birdman, while Moore won for Still Alice. The supporting gongs at the SAG's went to J.K Simmons for his explosive performance in Whiplash, while Patricia Arquette won for Boyhood. Both are heavily favoured to win Oscars.

Michael Keaton Patricia Arquette Benedict Cumberbatch Ralph Fiennes Screen Actors Guild

OK, so who’s nominated for the SAG Awards, happening tonight? The SAG ceremony is always more anticipated for the fashion and red carpet photos, rather than the actual show, but the winners list tends to be a good indicator for the Oscars later on. So, who’s on the list this year?

Michael Keaton
Michael Keaton is among the leading nominees for the SAG awards this year.

Boyhood and Birdman will go head to head in the best picture race, since the SAG awards don’t have separate genre categories. Michael Keaton, who stars in Birdman is a clear favourite this season for the honor, having scored wins for best actor in a comedy at the Golden Globes and for best actor at the Critics' Choice Awards, while Patricia Arquette won for best supporting actress in a drama at both shows, with Ellar Coltrane picking up best young actor awards at the Critics' Choice. Birdman won best acting ensemble at the Critics' Choice.

Forget The Screen Actors Guild Nominees, WHO GOT SNUBBED?!

Screen Actors Guild Matthew Mcconaughey Bruce Dern Tom Hanks Forest Whitaker

This morning we were treated to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations. It's one of the biggest award ceremonies on the movie calendar and, well, it's kind of a big deal. Forget the Globes - this is the ceremony that best predicts what's going to happen at the Oscars, with Shakespeare in Love, Chicago, Crash, Return of the King, Slumdog Millionaire, No Country For Old Men, Slumdog Millionaire, The King's Speech and Argo all winning the best ensemble cast award before going on to win best picture at the Academy Awards.

Obviously, we're not really interested in who got nominated today - we want to know who got snubbed, right? Well, this article probably isn't going to be too lengthy given that most of the nominations announcement was fairly predictable.
