Scotty Mccreery was left temporarily red faced while belting out the Star Spangled Banner at the World Series on Wednesday evening (19th October 2011). The American Idol winner was given the job of singing in front a sold-out audience of 46,406, including First Lady Michelle Obama.
According to, the country singer began the national anthem at the Busch Stadium in St Louis - but it soon became apparent nobody could hear him. Seemingly unaware he was given a dead microphone, Scotty continued to sing and reached the "By the dawn's early light" line before producers corrected the error. Nevertheless, MCCreery was given a warm ovation from the audience after singing the notoriously difficult tune almost perfectly. Game two of the World Series will see country star Trace Adkins tackle the Star Spangled Banner, while Nashville legend Ronnie Dunn will take national anthem duties for Game 3. At Sunday's Game 4, actress Zooey Deschanel will be on hand to belt out the anthem. The star of new Fox sitcom 'New Girl' also performs as part of the indie pop duo She and Him.
MCCreery's first album 'Clear as Day' hit shelves on 4th October 2011, selling 197,000 copies in its first week. Scotty made history by becoming the first country act to top the Billboard 200 with their first studio album.
