Rocker Scott Weiland owes his life to Velvet Revolver, because the band recruited him when he was a near-to-death drug addict.

The former Stone Temple Pilots frontman has a long history of heroin abuse, but he was well on course for a premature demise when ex-GUNS N' ROSES stars Slash, Duff Mckagan and Matt Sorum invited him to head their new rock project.

Fortunately, Velvet Revolver proved to be the force that reignited Weiland's passion for life at a time when he desperately needed salvation.

He tells British magazine MAXIM, "I was holding on to life by a thread. There was one toe dangling from the precipice, and hell was staring at me with an evil glare.

"I just wasn't ready to go to heaven yet, so I looked at joining this band as an opportunity to jump on a wagon, for lack of a better term."
