Faced with the choice of producing fewer episodes of Saturday Night Live or reducing its cast, SNL producer Lorne Michaels has reduced the cast -- firing five of the 16 members. Among the five are Chris Parnell and Horatio Sanz, who joined the show nine years ago and who apparently were being let go primarily because their salaries were higher than the others as a result of their longevity. Ratings for the show tumbled to their lowest level ever last season, although they still remain higher than those of its rivals.
