Labour Party politician Sadiq Khan took over from Boris Johnson in May (16), and speaking to London's ES Magazine ahead of the U.S. presidential election next month (Nov16), the actress shared her joy at Britain's multicultural acceptance.

"I'm so thrilled with your new mayor, especially in this particular climate," she told the publication.

"His election was not only a great comfort to a lot of us (Americans) who are in the midst of a very complicated election season but it also told a great story of this city. I'm very excited about him."

Americans will find out who their new president is on 8 November (16), with Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican hopeful Donald Trump battling it out to secure votes.

Billionaire businessman Trump has drawn criticism for his proposed new policies, which include banning foreign Muslims from entering the country and building a border wall between America and Mexico to keep immigrants out.
