Former British royal Sarah Ferguson has cancelled a trip to America over fears she will be extradited to Turkey to face charges over her documentary about orphaned children.
The Duchess of York has been accused of breaking Turkish law by filming kids at an orphanage for a British TV programme and faces up to 22 years in prison if convicted.
She was due to fly to the U.S. this month (Jan12), but has scrapped the trip amid fears she could be arrested in any country which has an extradition treaty with Turkey.
Ferguson cannot be extradited from Britain as officials have ruled such filming does not constitute a criminal offence in the U.K. so does not meet the criteria for extradition.
A spokesperson for the duchess has confirmed she is planning to stay in Britain until the Turkish court case is resolved, telling the Sunday Mirror, "She is not travelling at the moment. She's staying in the U.K. to sort this."
