Former British royal Sarah Ferguson is proud to admit she is finally debt free.
The Duchess Of York has battled longtime financial woes and last year (10), she was famously exposed for attempting to arrange a business meeting between her ex-husband Prince Andrew and an undercover reporter for a fee.
But after working with a variety of self-help gurus while filming a documentary series for Oprah Winfrey's network called Finding Sarah, she has finally managed to solve her financial problems.
Speaking to Robin Roberts on U.S. breakfast TV show Good Morning America on Tuesday (07Jun11), she says, "I'd just like you to know Robin that I'm now debt free. So going forward now, we're positive, we're creative, we're going to start again. So this time when I start again, it won't slip through my hands."
However, Ferguson is adamant her lavish lifestyle didn't lead to her money problems, citing her compassion for others as the reason she got her into trouble.
She adds, "Rather than me spending money, it was me playing to the people-pleaser addiction. It was like, 'Oh you need help? What can I do? (Here have some money).' Rather than actually taking steps and looking at, 'Why do I want to try to get everyone to love me by being really generous?'"
