Sophia Coppola's The Bling Ring, which deals with an actual group of celebrity-obsessed teenagers who burgled the homes of stars in the San Fernando Valley in 2009, got off to a good start at five theaters -- two in New York and three in Los Angeles -- over the weekend, earning $210,000 or a solid $42,000 per theater. The film received mostly positive reviews when it was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in the sidebar Un Certain Regard section. Peter Bradshaw of Britain's Guardian newspaper cryptically called it, an intriguingly intuitive and atmospheric movie. It is due to be expanded to about 500 theaters next weekend.
