The Foundations frontman passed away on Monday (27Mar17). A cause of death has not been announced.

Curtis began his career as a boxer in England, before moving into music as a singer in The Ramong Sound band. The band subsequently changed its name to the The Foundations and Curtis took over as the lead singer. The group released two albums before Curtis departed in 1968.

He went on to pursue a solo career in the U.S. at the urging of his friend Sammy Davis Jr., but he returned to England in the 1970s. He reformed different versions of The Foundations and also launched his solo career.

In addition to his music career, Curtis also appeared in stage shows including The Wiz and Amen Corner.
