Sam Claflin has been chosen to play the role of Finnick Odair, in the forthcoming sequel to The Hunger Games. The film studio Lionsgate confirmed the news that the British actor was successful in landing the role, Sky News reports today (August 23, 2012). There has been a huge amount of speculation over who would play the role of Finnick in Hunger Games: Catching Fire; now, fans of the film have finally received word that the Pirates of the Caribbean star will definitely be taking on the part.
Finnick Odair is the manipulative, yet alluring character that Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) has to face when she returns to the Hunger Games arena. The two form an alliance, though Katniss remains wary of him. Clafin made an impressive screen debut back in 2010, with two award-winning series, 'The Pillars of The Earth' and 'Any Human Heart.' His debut film role came with his performance as the footballer Duncan Edwards in 'United,' the following year. His big break came when he landed the role of Phillip in Pirates of the Caribbean, alongside Johnny Depp, before being cast in Snow White and the Huntsman.
Other actors known to have been cast in the highly-anticipated Hunger Games sequel are Jena Malone (Donnie Darko), who will play Johanna Mason and Philip Seymour Hoffman, who has been cast in the role of Plutarch Heavensbee. Hunger Games: Catching Fire is scheduled for release in November 2013.
