Author Salman Rushdie's ex-wife, U.S. TV chef Padma Lakshmi, is pregnant with her first child.
The 39-year-old Top Chef host split from author Rushdie in 2007 after three years of marriage.
Lakshmi is refusing the reveal the identity of the child's father, and whether she underwent fertility treatment to help her conceive.
The star has faced possible infertility for years after being diagnosed with Endometriosis, in which the lining of the uterus grows in other areas of the body.
Her spokesperson tells Usmagazine.com, "Model, author, and Emmy-nominated Padma Lakshmi confirms that she is carrying her first child after years of struggling with endometriosis, a cause for which she has co-founded the Endometriosis Foundation of America.
"As a result of her condition, this pregnancy has been referred to by her physician as nothing short of a medical miracle, and due to its delicate nature, we ask/implore the press to respect Ms. Lakshmi's privacy at this time."
