The Kazakhstani government has been criticised by respected journalistic organisation Reporters Without Borders for over-reacting in its war of words with British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen.

The British funnyman is revered for his spoof Kazakhstani journalist character Borat SAGDIYEV, and hosted this year's (05) MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) as his comic creation.

But Kazakhstani officials are appalled by Cohen's portrayal of the central Asian nation as a country of drunken racists, sexists and Stalinists, and closed his website on Tuesday (13DEC05) in addition to threatening legal action.

Reporters Without Borders, which is based in Paris, has branded the government's internet intervention as censorship and expressed its concern over "the politicisation of the administration of domain names".
