Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat film has been nominated for best adapted screenplay by the Writers Guild Awards (WGA) in the US.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan  written by Baron Cohen and Anthony Hines  is up against The Departed, The Devil Wears Prada, Little Children and Thank You For Smoking for the award.

The film about the spoof Kazakh journalist was also recently nominated for best comedy at Britain's South Bank awards.

WGA's best original screenplay nominees are Babel, Little Miss Sunshine, The Queen, Stranger Than Fiction and United 93.

The awards will be held simultaneously at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and the Hudson Theatre in New York on February 11th.

They are one of numerous ceremonies taking place in the next two months; the Golden Globes kick the season off on January 15th followed by the South Bank and Screen Actors Guild awards on January 28th and the Baftas on February 11th.

But all eyes are geared towards who the big winners will be at the Oscars on February 25th.
