Amazon is canning the Sacha Baron Cohen-produced comedy series Highston.
As well as Cohen, Highston boasted an impressive crew, with Oscar-nominee Bob Nelson penning the script and Little Miss Sunshine directing duo Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris helming it. But after picking up the pilot in December 2015, Amazon bosses have decided not to proceed with the show.
The comedy centred on the character of Highston Liggetts, played by Lewis Pullman, a teenager who becomes immersed in a world of his own imagination, where he is part of a large circle of celebrity friends.
"We love Bob, Jon and Val, both producers named Todd (Todd Hoffman and Todd Schulman) and the incredibly talented cast," Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy and Drama Development at Amazon Studios, said in a statement. "Unfortunately not every series works out."
30 Rock's Chris Parnell and 24's Mary Lynn Rajskub played Highston's parents, and the pilot, which aired in November (15), featured cameos from basketballer Shaquille O'Neal and Red Hot Chili Peppers star Flea.
Highston actor Curtis Armstrong broke the news on Twitter before Amazon officially announced its decision not to continue with the series.
"People have been asking when #Highston will premiere. It won't. @Amazon now says the show won't be picked up after all. A big disappointment," Armstrong posted.
