First Man will be based on James Hansen's biography First Man: A Life Of Neil A. Armstrong and will centre on Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin's mission to the moon in 1969. The historic mission marked the first time humans had set foot on the moon.

If Gosling signs on to the project, it will reunite him with director Damien Chazelle, who he is currently working with on La La Land.

Clint Eastwood was originally considering the film as a director and producer, but Chazelle signed on earlier this year (15) and will take charge of a script written by The Fifth Estate's Josh Singer.
