Ryan Gosling says he is embarrassed about the way he recently broke up a street fight between a painter and a thief.

Speaking about the scuffle, he told MTV.com, "I'm embarrassed, I think that guy really was stealing that other guy's painting, so I should have just kept my nose out of it. I said to the guy, 'Why are you doing this?' He said, 'Well, he tried to steal my painting." The Notebook star also added that his celebrity status didn't help him out during the altercation "then the guy from 'The Notebook' shows up and makes it weirder. It's just, the whole thing, nobody wins, nobody won." The 30-year-old actor is currently promoting his latest movie Drive, which is the story of a stunt driver who discovers he has a contract on his head after a heist gone wrong. The movie premiered at this years (2011) Cannes Film Festival and has so far been well received by critics.

Gosling was born in Canada and began his showbiz career at the age of 12 appearing in The Mickey Mouse Club alongside future superstars Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. However, he first gained attention starring in romance movie The Notebook alongside Rachel McAdams earning several award nominations for his performance. He is also currently starring in George Clooney's political thriller the Ides of March which tells the story of an idealistic young man entering the world of politics and corruption.
