Rap mogul Russell Simmons is teaming up with community leaders in New York to build a hip-hop institute, cultural centre and museum in Jamaica, Queens.
Def Jam co-founder Simmons, along with CHARLES FISHER, founder of the HIP-HOP SUMMIT YOUTH COUNCIL and Senator MALCOLM SMITH came up with the idea for the institute.
Queens native Simmons says, "There's so much positivity and power in Queens and in hip-hop. We just need to water the good seeds."
Simmons says the plans for the proposed institute include exhibits, memorabilia, a community centre and classes on hip-hop.
