The comedian's dream of a change in career was inspired by The Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding's announcement that he is to be one of the new presenters on The Great British Bake Off, when it moves to British network Channel 4 from its former home at the BBC.

After news of the revamped line-up broke, Russell took to Twitter to tell fans he has set his sights on the position of head judge on Strict, Len Goodman's position on the panel, after the dancing veteran announced his decision to leave the show.

"Right. If @noelfielding11 can do Bake Off I'm replacing Len on Strictly," Russell tweeted, much to the amusement of his fans.

Noel was quick to respond, writing: "Representing goths in the mainstream x x x"

But while Russell doesn't doubt Noel's presenting skills, he isn't so sure about the funny man's baking talents, later writing on Twitter: "I think anything you bake should be run by a sniffer dog before anyone vulnerable tastes it."
