British hunk Rupert Everett has dismissed claims he's vying to play the first gay James Bond.

The IDEAL HUSBAND star - who has often been linked to the role of 007 - has ruled out giving the world's most famous superspy a new sexuality - but does admit he's interested in taking on the part in its traditional form.

Rupert told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival, "I'd like to play James Bond but straight.

"It won't happen because Bond fans would burn down MGM if the studios got a gay actor to play James Bond."
