Hollywood director Roland Emmerich has used his latest movie to take revenge on British critics, who slated his previous film The Patriot.

The Day After Tomorrow, which is set to open in May (04), sees the world hit by a series of catastrophic ecological disasters caused by global warming.

And Emmerich - still upset by the bad reception afforded the American War of Independence movie in the UK, because of its one-sided portrayal of Brits - decided to take the opportunity to make Britain the first country to suffer from the freak weather.

He says, "England goes first."

Producer Mark Gordon adds, "It's payback for The Patriot and everything you got for that over here, isn't it?"
