Former JAMES BOND star SIR Roger Moore is backing Ewan McGregor to succeed Pierce Brosnan as the suave superspy.

The troubled 21st Bond installment's release date has been postponed until 2006 to allow MGM bosses time to recruit a director and lead actor for the movie.

But Moore believes their decision should be easy when it comes to appointing a new Bond - he deems Scottish star McGregor, who's seeking job offers after returning home from his round-the-world charity motorbike trek with pal Charley Boorman, the obvious candidate.

Moore - who played the debonair secret agent from 1973 to 1985 - says, "I'd be passing the baton on to another Scot you see," referring to original Bond SIR Sean Connery.
