Veteran rocker Rod Stewart has inspired a new West End, London musical.

The former FACES frontman has given permission for 22 of his hits to be used in a musical, written and directed by comedian-turned-playwright BEN ELTON.

Whilst Stewart will not take part in TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT, due to open at London's VICTORIA PALACE theatre in October (03), he has vowed to be its "biggest and loudest cheerleader", says his manager Arnold Stiefel.

Stiefel says of Elton, who also penned the ROBERT DE NIRO-backed Queen musical WE WILL ROCK YOU, "Ben put on a workshop that Rod and I went to see, and the songs are used in it as if Rod Stewart had sat down and written them for the play.

"It's a story that's funny and touching."
