Struggling Rock Star Pete Doherty believes he would be a "multiMillionaire" if he sued tabloid newspapers for printing untruthful things about him.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio 4's Front Row programme, the Babyshambles frontman denied a recent report in the Daily Mirror that his pet cat had tested positive for cocaine.
Describing the "caricature" of his character portrayed in the British media, Doherty said he emerged as "that a***hole drug addict off the papers".
"According to the tabloids I've injected unconscious adolescents with noxious substances.
If I had any sense about me I'd be a multimillionaire by now from suing people but
I can't be a**** to be honest," he said.
The 28-year-old singer, who is due to be sentenced later this month for drug abuse offences, claimed he is "seven weeks clean" of taking any drugs his longest spell for eight years.
"I'm not going to lie and say it's not a struggle, because it is blatantly. In a way I'm quite proud," he added.
Doherty said his time in rehab had seen him reconciled to his father after three years without seeing each other.
"He came in for some family therapy, which was a miracle itself that he would actually do that quite an emotional time to be honest," he finished.
