Robin Williams has passed away aged 63.

The 'Good Will Hunting' star is believed to have committed suicide via asphyxiation and was found dead at his home in Tiburon, California, on Monday morning (11.08.14).

The actor, who lived with his wife Susan Schneider, was seen alive on Sunday evening (10.08.14) but emergency services were soon called to his property after his body was discovered the next day at 11.55am.

Robin's publicist has since released a statement, saying: ''Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss.

''The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.''

Although it is reported that the veteran actor - who leaves behind his wife and their three children Zak, 31 Zelda, 25, and Cody, 23 - took his own life, further investigations into the exact cause of his death are taking place, while a toxicology report and forensic examinations are set to be completed.

A spokesman for the Marin County Sheriff's Department in California explained: ''An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff's Office.

''At this time, the Sheriff's Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made.''
