The BEE GEES star Robin Gibb received a prestigious Rock and Roll diploma from Sir Paul McCartney on Friday (29JUL05) during a ceremony at the ex-beatle's Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) in England.
McCartney told the NIGHT FEVER singer he deserved the honorary companionship - the equivalent of an honorary degree - because he belongs to a band which is ranked sixth on the all-time top sellers list, and is the only act in history to write, produce and record six consecutive hit singles.
The HEY JUDE rocker opened the institute in the grounds of his former school in 1996, and inducts four celebrity companions into the school each year.
LIPA's founding principal and chief executive Mark Featherstone-witty says, "Around 30 successful showbusiness people have shared their lives and skills with students this year from Dawn French to RICHARD WILSON - it's been a record year.
"We would want to honour them all, but the degree ceremony can really only cope with four."31/07/2005 09:27
