The French actress became caught up in Brad's split from wife Angelina Jolie in September (16), amid claims a secret love affair with the 52-year-old had caused the end of the Hollywood superstars' marriage.

Marion silenced the chatter two days later in a lengthy post on Instagram, in which she stated the false gossip was spiralling out of control and upsetting her loved ones, including longtime partner Guillaume Canet, the "father of our son and of the baby we are expecting".

Even filmmaker Canet addressed the fevered speculation on social media, branding the rumours "stupid and unfounded".

Now Zemeckis has offered up his thoughts on the drama, insisting he brushed off the tabloid furore because it's just a downside of being a public figure.

"There's not much you can do (about such gossip)," he told U.S. breakfast show Today. "I mean, unfortunately, I think it's part of being a celebrity, but I just give everybody their privacy and try to respect the problems that they're going through."

Marion and Brad play spies who fall in love in the midst of World War II in the thriller, and they reunited for the first time since the controversy at the Los Angeles premiere of Allied last week (09Nov16). The actress didn't hold back from heaping praise on her co-star.

"(Brad is) such a good man," the 41-year-old told Entertainment Tonight. "Of course he's an amazing actor. He's such a good person that it's really not difficult to get along with him."
