Actor Rob Lowe has offered his prayers and condolences to friends and neighbours who have lost everything in the California wildfires.
The Brothers & Sisters star's home in Santa Barbara County was spared from the week-long blaze over the weekend (09-10May09) but he admits it was a close call and he was ready to evacuate his home.
Joining friend and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Santa Barbara on Monday (11May09), Lowe told reporters, "I could see the flames from my back yard. We were crossing our fingers."
The fires, sparked by faulty electrical tools, have caused hundreds of millions of dollars worth of damage in California, and they're still burning. More than 80 homes have burned to the ground.
Lowe joined Schwarzenegger to highlight the seriousness of the fire damage and offer locals his support: "It's very sad. Friends and neighbours have lost their whole lives. But it's also inspiring because you see this community come together."
