Rima Fakih, the former Miss Usa, was arrested and jailed early on Saturday (December 2, 2011) on suspicion of drunken driving. The model, 26, was arrested by Highland Park police at around 2.15am and charged with misdemeanour drunk driving, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Her attorney Doraid Elder says he cannot confirm what Rima's blood alcohol level was at the time of her arrest or where she had been drinking. Elder says the model decided to be the designated driver after her friend became too intoxicated, however, she soon realised she had drank too much and was pulling over her car when police spotted her. According to CBS Detroit, a tweet appeared on Fakih's Twitter page around 4.55pm that day which read, "I'm Not in Michigan and I'm Not in jail", but the message has since been removed. In a strange twist, her attorney claims the model did not post the tweet, saying, "Because of Rima's demanding schedule, there are others, friends and family, that do have permission to tweet things and to post things on her Facebook account.I don't believe they were aware of the situation, prior to talking to Rima. And it may have been something that someone else may have been misinformed responded or pasted that information". Her attorney claims the model is taking full responsibility for her actions and is "very saddened and very apologetic for the situation she is in right now".
If convicted of drunken-driving, the 26-year-old could face up to 93 days in prison as well as a hefty fine. Born in Lebanon but raised in New York, Rima stormed onto the modelling scene in May 2010, when she became the first Arab-American to win the Miss Usa Pageant.
