Rihanna has taken to Twitter to pay tribute to her beloved 'GranGran Dolly' after she lost her battle with cancer. The superstar singer had just finished a performance at Sweden's Peace and Love festival, where some concertgoers complained that she turned up late and seemed a little shaky.
In hindsight, the death of her close family member had clearly hampered the live show, though she sang an emotional rendition of Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song'. RiRi's Twitter followers will know that Dolly figured prominently in her life and she often spoke fondly of her Caribbean values and upbringing. As fans sent their well-wishes and condolences, one note in particular caught the attention. Chris Brown - Rihanna's ex-boyfriend who violently beat her on the eve of the Grammy Awards in 2009 - seemingly referred to Dolly in his tweet, saying, "Praying for family and the lost loved one. She was like my grandmother. Love you Gran Gran! Rip". Brown's mother Joyce Hawkins also posted a heartfelt message to Rihanna, saying, "rihanna Angel May God Be With You And Your Family In Your Time Of Sorrow. Love You Angel". The singer then replied, saying, "Thank you! Love u mama". In a later tribute to her gran, the 'We Found Love' singer tweeted, "Goodbye grangranDolly get your beauty rest until I see you".
Rihanna performed alongside Jay Z at Radio 1's Hackney Weekender in London last week, closing the pre-Olympics bash on the Sunday evening (June 24, 2012).
